Oral history interview with Dean Rusk, 1985 Nov 11.

In this interview, Dean Rusk describes Lyndon Johnson's desire to bring the Vietnam War to a close. He discusses growing opposition to the war among cabinet members, Congress and at the grass roots level. Rusk speaks of Arthur Goldberg's bombing halt proposal, Johnson's sensitivity to press leaks and of Johnson's decision not to seek re-election in 1968. He discusses President Johnson's speech on March 31, 1968 as a turning point for U.S. policy in Vietnam.
